Description of the prairie from Elaine: "There are three phases of development of our prairies.  We started out in the late 80’s transplanting plugs of grasses and broadcasting seed from a prairie at Lac Lawrann in West Bend.  I added a few plugs of new plants each year and nursed them along.  Phase 2 was around 2005.  It was planted in an area to encourage the karner blue butterfly.  It has developed nicely and has quite a variety of grasses and forbs.  The last phase was in 2017, when we did a planting for pollinators in quite a large area.  There was a required list for both phase 2 and phase 3 and we also added some other plants to each one.  Funny thing, my favorite area is the very first one where I worked so hard to get plants going."
